Spiney Echionocereus

I am very lucky to have several of these beautiful Claret Cup Cacti on my property. Watching the blossoms appear each year is a tradition that marks the coming of summer. I enjoy improvisational piecing and used that technique to create the impression of my Claret Cup, the sand and the purple scorpion weed flowers that often grow in the same area. Paint and free motion embroidery added details to the blossoms and thorns.
