Utah Tiffany Stone

By Rosanna Lynn Welter

40” by 30”

Growing up with a rockhounding father, I traveled the west digging gem quality rocks to cut and polish for jewelry. One beautiful stone unique to Utah is Tiffany Stone. You might think it is named for its Tiffany blue inclusions, but in fact it was named after the original finder's daughter. It has only been located near a specific beryllium mine in Utah, making it rare; and it is often, sadly, crushed in the mining process. Composed of fluorite, opal, calcite, dolomite, quartz, chalcedony, bertrandite and other materials, it is highly prized for its beauty as polished beads and cabochons.
