Tuzigoot Pueblo Ruins

by Lynne Welsch

32” by 21”

In the Verde Valley of Arizona are the remains of a 110 room hilltop pueblo, now preserved in the Tuzigoot National Monument. It was built by the Singua people on a high limestone and sandstone ridge between the 11th and 13th centuries. The pueblo was abandoned about 300-400 years ago, most likely due to overcrowding or resource depletion.
